Page 1 of 4 This is the first of occasional newsletters that will be emailed/sent to members, as well as posted on the tennis website. Hopefully in keeping you advised of what is happening within the section, you will get more enjoyment and value from your membership. Please feel free to submit any articles for inclusion in the next Newsletter, which I anticipate will appear around the end of May.
Thanks
Last year was very much an experiment as we had our own courts for the first time for about 4 years. In 2006, we were embarking on our endeavour to rebuild the section but the real work actually started the year before when Jon Sherlock, Paul Clarke & I got together to form what must be the smallest committee the club has ever had. As most of you are aware, the tennis section had declined significantly over the previous ten years to a point that it has only survived because of Jon, Paul and a few loyal players. I would like to take the opportunity to thank both Paul & Jon for the extensive efforts and time that they expended to start the rebuilding process. Also, my thanks to Andy Davies who stood in as second team captain on the days I could not turn out.We had arranged a sponsorship deal that enabled us to obtain the services of LTA coach Paul Mannion & he joined the committee at the beginning of the year. Paul very quickly established a following of senior & junior members who attended his evening & weekend sessions. Finally, thanks to those members, both past & present who made the effort to attend our events & also to those who represented the club in matches. New Year, New Committee
I am delighted to welcome to the tennis committee Joanne Hunt, Jane Hynes & Andy Proctor, they join Jon Sherlock, Paul Clarke, Paul Mannion & myself who together constitute the full committee. We are still looking for a couple of extra members to fill the roles of “Web Guru” & also a parent to represent the juniors. Call me if you get a sudden urge to serve! Most of the communication is by email with a meeting approximately once a month.
