A few things to bring to your notice in our August Newsletter:- dates for your diary, team reports, coaching sessions - all that you need to know.
The Pimms & Tennis afternoon was a great success & seemingly was enjoyed by all including some new faces. It started at about 2 o’clock with 2/3 hours of social tennis & then we adjourned to the new pavilion to enjoy a few gallons of Pimms complemented by afternoon tea. Our thanks to the Sponsors, Abbeymews Properties, who underwrote the costs of the afternoon.
This Saturday there is a mixed friendly against Bowdon the team is Anne Petts (a welcome return to Mersey’s courts!), Lisa Lucas, Julie Hunter, Andy Davies, Tony Metters & Dan Burns.
This Sunday Social tennis from about 2pm – Can I have a volunteer from amongst the experienced members to run it please? Call me to let me know.
Junior Tennis coaching on Sunday mornings starts again in September – Contact Paul Mannion for details.
Monday Nights: Coach Paul Mannion runs sessions for beginner/improver adults. Turn up at about 7pm - £4.00 per person.
The Second Team played their last match on Monday night & ran out convincing winners. It was our first season back in the league and we were unlucky to lose 4 matches by an odd set or two. Still we have a good squad & should be pushing for promotion next year.
The First Team has had a super season in Division 4 winning al but two of their matches & may well yet get promoted.
Winter League: We have applied to enter a team (2 ladies & 2 men) and will find out shortly if we have been accepted. Anyone interested in being captain, please let me know (incentives/bribes available). Ladies: We are getting close to having a squad of players that will enable us to enter a team in the league next year (we need to tell the league by the end of October). Can those of you who are interested in playing league tennis, please let me know ASAP? Captain required!
On August Bank Holiday it is the formal opening of the club with various dignitaries invited from each section (we have the President of Lancs LTA, The Secretary & President of the North East Cheshire League). The sections are all arranging some activity during the day and tennis are going to run theirs in the morning so I would like to have the courts full, so those of you who are not away that weekend, it would be a great help if you came down for an hour or two for few games starting about 11. More details to follow.
Sunday 24th September following the Pimms Days, there will be another Sunday Bash with afternoon tea again, starting at 2pm – all standards welcome.
Friday 27th October to celebrate the end of our first season as a resurrected section, we are having an informal dinner in the function room. Existing, new and lapsed members are invited. More details closer to the date but please mark your diary now.
Still looking for committee members! Regards.
