After our opening match win last week it was important for the team to continue in the winning vein, and against a team we lost to last year. Indeed we did and registered another 9-3 win. On a fairly damp night we got off to a good start in the opening round of matches…..

After our opening match win last week it was important for the team to continue in the winning vein, and against a team we lost to last year. Indeed we did and registered another 9-3 win. On a fairly damp night we got off to a good start in the opening round of matches…..

Paul Mannion and David Sadler played first couple and won 6-2 6-2. In his first full season, David is developing into a good senior match player and having Paul alongside who is playing excellent tennis seems to work very well.

In the second round Paul and David followed up with a 6-2 6-3 win to complete a 4-0 sets score on the night.

Paul Clarke and Mark Bailey played second couple and are benefiting from pre season practices. Having had no facilities over the past few years, pre season get togethers were rare, this meant that players were quite rusty coming into the season.

Having played pre season has allowed momentum to be carried into matches. Paul and Mark won 6-2 6-4 in their first event and 6-2 6-2 in their second event. Mark particularly is playing some very consistent tennis and in both matches to date hasn’t had a single double fault!!

Evergreen Tony Burgess with king of the crown green Andy Proctor played 3RD couple and after a “finding their feet” start halved their first event but fell just short against Lymm’s first couple. It is good to see Andy back playing again after a long absence.

Next match is local derby vs West Heaton on 18 May.
