Gents Second team v AZ Club |

The gent’s second team made a welcome return to the North East Cheshire League and it was also our first home fixture for four years because of the redevelopment project. Unfortunately, for that doubly auspicious occasion, we met a very strong team who had won their previous five matches and they dispatched our guys by 16 sets to 2.
Our first couple of Peter Sherlock & Lionel Burns captured our only sets of the evening but they did succeed in pushing their opponents on the other sets played. They were forced though an injury to Lionel’s back to concede the last set. Second couple comprised a mixture of experience (Andy Davies) & youth (Andy Hampson) but they were outplayed by the opposition & whilst going down fighting, did not (as they say in cricketing parlance), trouble the scorer! That said, the older Andy has shown great enthusiasm (shame he didn’t 20 years ago!) since the re-launch of the courts & will be a regular member of the team. Young Andy has loads of talent & will soon be turning in good results. Tony Metters & Steve Stackable played third couple but it was a bit of a baptism by fire as this was the first time that they had played a match together. Despite their best efforts, they were beaten in all three events. Next Match v Macclesfield (Away). |
