With Paul M now back after a week of sleepness nights we took on Brabyns at Mersey. Brabyns were 2nd in the table having won 4 from 5 matches so again another cup final for us in climbing the table.

Neil was unavailable due to a back injury so Andy H came in and resumed him partnership with Dave.

Again we had to mix the pairs up which isn’t ideal but no choice.

Paul and Mark were back together and overall had a great evening, probably the best they have played together for a while, with both of us hitting good form.

After a close first set against Brabyns first couple which we took on a tiebreaker, we never looked back, winning the 2nd set 6-3.

Following this we also won the next 2 events 6-0 6-1 and 6-0 6-3 with the 6-0 set against the 3rd couple a fantastic set- one of the sets where everything goes right and we only 3 points in the whole set!!

Paul and Simon also had a  good evening winning 4 sets and I think baby time and the fact that Paul M hadn’t played much tennis over the past 2 week being a factor in him being a little tired!! Simon also had a good evening with some key points won at crucial times in some close sets being the difference.

Meanwhile Andy and Dave despite reverses against the 1st and 3rd pairs, had a great win against the 2nd pairing.

As I mentioned in previous reports, ensuring that all couples win sets is fundamental to a good match, we have done this over the past couple of matches and we need to maintain this in our last 4matches.

We are now 4-2 and looking at other standings in the table, we are right back in the mix. Northern 3rd team have won all 6 and more than likely will win the division, there are 4 other teams who have lost 2 , Mersey included, competing for the runners up spot. Its going to be a close run to the end of the season.

Next match vs Bramhall Park on 17 June
