Lymm would be a difficult match for us and certainly a benchmark for us in this higher division. Lymm finished 4th in Div 3 last season and we knew they would have a good side.
We had everyone available in usual pairings and it was a great sunny evening for tennis.
A great opening round saw Paul and Mark winning 6-1 6-3, Paul and Dave 6-2 6-2 and Neil and Simon halving 2-6 6-3. This saw us take a 5-1 lead into the second round and that was a great platform for the rest of the match.
Paul and Mark continued excellent form with a 6-1 6-3 win against the 2nds, Paul and Dave also winning well 6-2 6-0, Neil and Simon having a tough one against the 1sts and coming off a loss 2-6 3-6.
However a 9-3 lead 2/3rds through the match was a pretty unassailable lead and so it proved with us both winning and losing 2 more sets for an 11-5 overall win.
Mark and Paul winning all 6 sets and dropping only 9 games but more importantly each pair winning some sets. That is the key for matches generally that if all couples pick up some sets you generally have a chance to win the match.
So 2 out of 2 so far with the next 2 matches against Northern 4th and 3rd teams to come.
